The coordinator assists in the creation and publication of content, brainstorming ideas to promote Sunstone, and developing newsletters and other PR materials. The coordinator also assists in the coordination of internal and external events.

Job Title: Communications Coordinator

Location: Rockville, MD

Hours: 9am - 5pm, Mon-Fri

Department: Marketing and Communications

Context: Sunstone Therapies is the leader in the delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy in the medical setting, addressing the emotional suffering of those affected by cancer and complex mental health challenges and disorders through FDA-Approved psychedelic therapy trials.  In service to Sunstone’s vision of Whole Person Healing for All, the Communications Coordinator plays a key role on Sunstone’s team to raise awareness, dispel myths of psychedelics, and educate physicians and potential patients of this innovative treatment.

Scope: Reporting to the Marketing and Communications  Manager, the Communications Coordinator’s primary duty revolves around ensuring communication and marketing operations run effortlessly, providing essential assistance to promoting the Sunstone brand and upholding the organization’s external image.  The coordinator assists in the creation and publication of content, brainstorming ideas to promote Sunstone, and developing newsletters and other PR materials.  The coordinator also assists in the coordination of internal and external events.  

Core duties include:

  • Support execution of communications and marketing plans across digital and print channels.
  • Draft, edit, and publish content for Sunstone’s platforms (social, website, email newsletters, and internal updates).
  • Support social media operations, including content scheduling, posting, and basic performance tracking.
  • Maintain and update web content in coordination with internal stakeholders and vendors as needed.
  • Manage communications calendars, deadlines, and approvals; track status of deliverables and follow-ups.
  • Maintain media lists, contact databases, distribution lists, and other communications documentation.
  • Collect and organize photos/videos for use in communications; support light editing and formatting as needed.
  • Assist with internal and external event coordination (logistics, materials, invitations, reminders, day-of support).
  • Monitor industry trends, peer organizations, and competitors; bring forward relevant insights and ideas.
  • Support use of digital marketing and communications tools (e.g., Constant Contact) including list management and reporting.
  • Compile basic reporting on communications performance and brand visibility; help identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills:

Required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a “how can I help” mindset.
  • Comfort working in a clinical office environment and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar) and/or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Comfort using Canva (or similar design tools) and social media platforms.
  • An orientation toward love and rigor: kindness, care for others, a good sense of humor, and the ability to get things done.

Preferred

  • 3+ years experience in communications, marketing coordination, administrative support, or a related role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field.
  • Experience supporting email marketing tools (e.g., Constant Contact) and/or content management systems.
  • Basic understanding of social media strategy and metrics.
  • Strong research skills and sound judgment in representing an organization publicly.

What success looks like:

  • Communications deliverables are organized, on-time, and consistent with Sunstone’s voice and brand.
  • Social and web content is posted accurately and reliably, with clean coordination and minimal rework.
  • Calendars, lists, and materials are kept current and easy for the team to use.
  • The role brings practical ideas and improvements—not just execution—while staying dependable on follow-through.
