The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Community Engaged Research Administrator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The position will play a strong role in the research and community engagement goals of the LIVE-PATH (Lifting Indigenous Voices and Experiences in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy and Healing) Network. LIVE-PATH is a national CIHR-funded project, bringing together a diverse array of expertise from across Canada focused on Indigenous leadership in psychedelic-based therapeutics, bridging capacity across Indigenous and Western biomedical knowledge bases. Network members include researchers, academics, healthcare workers, healthcare systems specialists, representatives of First Nations, and people with lived experienced.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Organizes and facilitates network meetings, including creation and dissemination of agendas and minutes, identification and delegation of action items, coordinating scheduling, and preparation of resulting reports
- Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with network members, project staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Respectfully and effectively provides outreach and engagement to community and stakeholders within community settings as well as those who are part of each project governance structures
- Leads knowledge translation efforts, including maintaining website and social media accounts, bulletins, and newsletters for both internal and external stakeholders
- Develops and implements research plans and procedures (in which overall goals are set by and under the direction of the PI and investigator team); achieves background research such as searches, critical appraisal, and summary of literature
- Facilitates data collection with a focus on interviews and focus groups; observes and records results; organizes data, prepares data for analysis and carries out analysis procedures under the direction of the investigator team
- Prepares and refines results for presentation and publication (i.e., peer-reviewed articles, conference presentations, reports, etc.) in collaboration with the broader research teams
- Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis, interpretation and synthesis for use in project outputs including scholarly publications
- Works independently and with broad strategic guidance with minimal hands-on direction; manage own time effectively and ensure immediate reporting to supervisor to keep them informed of activities, and progress of work
- Recommend changes to methods, procedures, and practices; assist with plans and designs for specialized applications to meet the needs of operations, research, and services
- Work with a high-level concentration, resourcefulness, and creativity, in performing highly complex and analytical functions; Incorporates creative problem solving approaches
- Prepare draft reports and manuscripts, producing initial drafts of manuscripts for publication and appropriate scientific journals
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher, with critical research training, within the following disciplines: social sciences, health systems, public health, population health, communications, or humanities
- Minimum 2 years of research experience in a relevant topic areas as described above, with knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and knowledge/experience in relational work with Indigenous communities in research settings
- Congruent training and/or Indigenous community experience facilitating critical knowledge and understanding of Indigenous realities impacting health and strong inter-cultural communication skills
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly engagement with community members, leadership, and/or Elders
- Experience and knowledge of university research ethics procedures
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- High level of effective time management, personal initiative and teamwork required with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
- Must be open to learning and development, and be flexible and willing to accept new and emerging tasks
- Experience in supporting knowledge translation efforts, such as a community-facing website, social media platforms, and other forms of media, is desirable
- Experience with literature reviews and/or searching library databases for literature; managing reference lists in software such as Zotero is an asset
- Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g. NVivo) and/or quantitative (SPSS, R) analysis tools is a strength
