Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Farm Production Technician to support the daily operations at our mushroom production facility. This role is essential to ensuring the consistency, quality, and efficiency of our cultivation processes. The Production Technician is responsible for carrying out production protocols, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and assisting with all aspects of farm operations as directed by management.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out the plans, protocols, and directives of the Farm Manager / CEO.
- Assist with daily farm production activities and tasks as assigned.
- Prepare substrates according to established recipes and procedures.
- Perform inoculations, monitor growth phases, and support incubation and fruiting processes.
- Help maintain the farm’s genetic library and assist with laboratory tasks such as agar preparation, liquid culture development, and spawn production.
- Conduct composting and waste management activities.
- Perform regular cleaning and sanitation of workspaces, lab, and grow rooms to uphold sterile environments.
- Follow production schedules and assemble necessary materials and supplies.
- Carry out production tasks including:
- Media preparation and sterilization
- Inoculation with pure cultures
- Monitoring and harvesting mushrooms
- Post-processing and packaging of materials
- Media preparation and sterilization
- Monitor mushroom quality and report issues to management.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities as directed.
- Follow company operating procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Operate and maintain instruments and machinery as needed.
- Assist team members with any tasks as needed—no task too big or too small.
- Assist with harvesting, dehydration and packaging as needed.
- Other Farm related tasks as directed by the supervisor or management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, Mycology, or a related field preferred but absolutely not required. A simple spark of passion & obsession will do just fine.
- Demonstrated ability to follow standardized procedures and adapt to evolving protocols.
- Effective communicator in team environments; able to lead small groups with clarity and confidence.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Applied knowledge of aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, and contamination prevention.
- Prior experience in biological or fungal production, ideally in gourmet or medicinal mushroom cultivation.
- Passion for mushrooms and interest in fungal applications in food, medicine, or sustainability.
- Friendly, collaborative, and solution-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive physical tasks.
$18-$20/hr part time with possibility of full time
