Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Training and Research to Empower NeuroDiversity (TREND) Lab at CHLA is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate risk and protective factors for adverse mental health outcomes in neurodivergent youth through longitudinal studies and randomized controlled trials. The Fellow will support data analysis for multiple cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, assist with manuscript writing, disseminate findings at conferences, and contribute to grant writing. They will participate in weekly lab meetings and receive one-on-one mentorship from the Principal Investigator (PI). Additional training and professional development opportunities are available through CHLA’s TECPAD office and TREND collaborators at CHLA, USC, and institutions across the U.S.
The lab collects neural (e.g., EEG), clinical (e.g., neuropsychological assessments, interviews, surveys), and behavioral data from neurodivergent youth ages 9–18. The lab also conducts clinical trials focused on suicide prevention and depression treatments for youth, using multimethod data collection across neural, behavioral, and clinical domains.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will receive training to develop academic expertise, research skills, teaching experience, and administrative competencies essential for an independent research career. Responsibilities include conducting research independently or in collaboration with the PI, performing laboratory work, publishing scientific manuscripts, and participating in seminars and educational activities.
The TREND Lab is directed by Jessica Schwartzman, Ph.D., and is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Las Madrinas Foundation, Eagles Austism Foundation, and the Saban Research Institute at CHLA. Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: Exposure to and/or experience in research in a healthcare environment preferred.
Highly Preferred Skills:
- 2+ years of experience with longitudinal data analysis.
- Experience with collecting, analyzing, and publishing EEG data.
- Experience with collecting, analyzing, and publishing clinical trials data.
- Experience in autism research studies.
- Three or more peer-reviewed publications in the areas of clinical psychology, developmental psychology, neuroscience, biostatistics, and/or a related field highly preferred.
Education/Licensure/Certification: MD and/or PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree. Applicants must have completed their doctoral degree by their anticipated start date.
