Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Psychedelic Research
The Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing conducts clinical trials of
psychedelic-assisted therapies for a range of indications with civilians and veterans. Our
research takes place at our Center on the upper west side of Manhattan and the James J
Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx. We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician
Assistant who is licensed in New York and has experience and/or training in psychedelic
assisted therapy or clinical research. This position is ideal for a motivated, research-
oriented NP or PA with interest in psychedelic therapy who wants to contribute to the
development of a robust program of psychedelic research and clinical care. Training in
psychedelic assisted therapy, medical screening, and clinical trial management will be
provided. The NP/PA will participate as a member of our research team and will have the
opportunity to help contribute to the development of psychedelic assisted therapy practice
and protocols.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive medical screening, including record review and patient
interview
• Conduct screening physical exams, which may include blood draw and EKG
• Provide on-site medical backup during dosing sessions
• May conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments
• Participate as member of research team, including completion of study-related
documentation, attending relevant research meetings and trainings
• Follow protocol and operational requirements for each study
• Work collaboratively with Center team, including clinical and research staff
• Potential to function asindividual or co-therapist for patients engaging in
psychedelic-assisted therapies, including preparation, treatment and integration
sessions
• Perform phlebotomy, skin biopsies, and other minor medical procedures
Skills and Experience:
• 2+ years of experience as a licensed NP or PA in NY State
• Excellent therapeutic, interpersonal, and communication skills
• High standards of integrity and ethics
• Attention to detail and documentation with accountability and compliance with
required procedures
• Flexibility, collaborative stance, able to adapt to changing procedures and context
• Able to work in a team and independently
Additional Desired Experience (not required):
• Experience conducting structured psychiatric clinical assessments (e.g., SCID,
MINI)
• Expertise in PTSD and trauma-related conditions
• Knowledge of GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and GDP (Good Documentation
Practice)
• Completion of a psychedelic assisted therapy training program
• Experience conducting psychedelic-assisted therapy or working with patients in
non-ordinary states of consciousness
Work location: the NP/PA will work onsite at both Center locations in Manhattan and the
Bronx. Some remote work may be allowed on an ad hoc basis.
