The Patient Evaluation & Communications Specialist manages the end-to-end prescreening process for all clinical research studies and supports related communications and outreach. Sitting within marketing, the role operates at the intersection of marketing and clinical research operations, driving brand messaging and kickstarting the patient journey. The Specialist closes the feedback loop between recruitment and marketing, ensuring patients are effectively recruited, evaluated, and supported through the pre-enrollment journey. They also gather qualitative insights from patient interactions and help adapt recruitment and prescreening workflows based on those learnings, continually improving the experience to align with patient needs. The role ultimately serves to grow and strengthen the patient funnel—both in quality and quantity.

Job Title: Patient Evaluation & Communications Specialist

Location: remote 2 days/week, onsite 3 days/week Rockville, MD

Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday

Department: Marketing and Communications

Reports To: Marketing and Communications Manager, dotted line to Clinical Systems Manager

Context: Sunstone Therapies is the leader in the delivery of psychedelic-assisted therapy in the medical setting, focusing on the development and implementation of clinical trials today, and clinical delivery if and when therapies are approved. Right now, we have two sites with roughly 30 employees -- looking to build our team and expand to 2 more sites in the next 2 years. Scope: The Patient Evaluation & Communications Specialist manages the end-to-end prescreening process for all clinical research studies and supports related communications and outreach. Sitting within marketing, the role operates at the intersection of marketing and clinical research operations, driving brand messaging and kickstarting the patient journey. The Specialist closes the feedback loop between recruitment and marketing, ensuring patients are effectively recruited, evaluated, and supported through the pre-enrollment journey. They also gather qualitative insights from patient interactions and help adapt recruitment and prescreening workflows based on those learnings, continually improving the experience to align with patient needs. The role ultimately serves to grow and strengthen the patient funnel—both in quality and quantity.

Job activities include but are not limited to:

  • Study Start-Up: support the identification and outreach of potential patients for new clinical trials by leveraging Health Cloud data and Active Campaign. Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and launch recruitment communications.
  • Prescreening Operations: lead and manage the patient prescreening process including scheduling, conducting prescreen phone calls, managing CRM data entry, and triaging patient inquiries. Serve as the central point of contact for incoming leads and ensures a consistent and supportive patient experience.
  • Prescreening Strategy & Optimization: track recruitment pipeline performance, deliver insights in weekly meetings, and collaborate on improving prescreening tools and workflows.
  • On-Study Patient Care: support research teams by conducting qualitative interviews with patients and contributing to research publications. Partner with communications and clinical leads to gather and share insights from the patient experience.
  • Clinical Research & SOC Communications: develop and review study-related content such as factsheets, web pages, and outreach materials. Contribute to communications strategies for patients, providers, and internal stakeholders by ensuring consistency and alignment with research goals.
  • Marketing & Communications Support: assist with ad hoc marketing/communications needs; draft and edit content across platforms (website, social media, email outreach); and support social media publishing and engagement tracking on Sunstone’s channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
