The Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico seeks a highly motivated team player with a commitment for implementation of research studies examining the potential use of psychedelic assisted therapies for PTSD. The on-call position peer facilitator therapy includes being trained to become group facilitator for the GPAT study. GPAT is an innovative study of Group Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy using an affinity group model including veteran/first responders, women survivors of sexual trauma, and other groups. This Program Therapist may assist with the recruitment, prescreening, preparatory, dosing and integration sessions of study participants. They must be present at all medicine and the group preparatory and integrations sessions. Preferred Qualifications include training and/or experience in psychedelic assisted therapy research, group facilitation, and interest in working with individuals with PTSD. The model has been created to be in alignment with a community engagement process.

Specific duties include:

  1.     .   Assisting with prescreening screening of research participants. Must be well versed on study inclusion and exclusion criteria for eligibility in accordance with the study protocol.
  1. Collaborates with other facilitators, therapists and research team staff, to ensure that clinical activities and issues are handled in a manner consistent with program objectives, policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  2. Participates in educational, training, and outreach activities, to include study recruitment and presentations.
  3. Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel in planning and carrying out study activities.
  4. Full weekend day and occasional early evening sessions are required. Must be available to support participants during group preparatory, dosing, and integration sessions.
  5. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  •     Group facilitation experience
  •     Familiarity with research in psychedelic assisted therapy, PTSD and trauma, and other mental health areas
  •     Experience as a psychedelic therapy facilitator
  •     Training and/or experience in psychedelic assisted therapy or other mental health research
  •     Experience or demonstrated interest in working with people experiencing PTSD, trauma and other mental health challenges.
  •     Interest in working with individuals with PTSD
  •     People who are successful in this position can work independently, are self-motivated, very detail oriented, responsible, and have good critical thinking skills.
  •     Strong interpersonal skills including ability to comfortably work with people during preparation and integration from psychedelic therapy.
